In Dave the Diver, players encounter numerous formidable creatures while exploring the mysterious Blue Hole, but few boss encounters present as memorable a challenge as the mighty Mantis Shrimp. Unlocking and defeating this aquatic boxer requires careful timing, specific environmental conditions, and appropriate equipment. Knowing how to trigger the encounter and counter its aggressive punching mechanics is essential for completing sub-missions and harvesting rare rewards.

Where to Find the Mantis Shrimp Vortex

The Mantis Shrimp boss does not roam freely in the Blue Hole during standard daytime diving shifts. Players can only locate this boss by entering a special whirlpool vortex that appears exclusively during stormy night weather. Additionally, you must first complete prerequisite quests given by Sato, such as the Stormy Night mission involving the Truck Hermit Crab.

To reach the arena, dive into the shallows during a designated stormy night after receiving the Stormy Night 2 mission. Swim toward the far-right side of the map at a shallow depth of roughly 20 to 50 meters. Interacting with the glowing vortex will prompt a warning before transferring Dave into the enclosed battle chamber.

Understanding the Boss Attack Patterns

The Mantis Shrimp relies heavily on rapid boxing jabs and heavy charged strikes to overwhelm players. Its quick jab combinations can quickly drain Dave's oxygen gauge if he gets trapped near the center of the arena. Staying mobile by constantly swimming up and down along the edges helps dodge these standard punches.

Its most dangerous move is a powerful charged punch accompanied by ground slams that generate strong water currents. This current shoves Dave back toward a spiked wall on the far left side of the room, causing massive damage. Recognizing the wind-up animation allows players to prepare their defenses before the impact occurs.

Combat Tips and How to Defeat the Mantis Shrimp

To block the Mantis Shrimp's supercharged strike, players must interact with the metal chain hanging from the chamber ceiling. Pulling the chain lifts a heavy punching bag anchor that acts as a shield against the incoming attack. When the boss punches the metal anchor, it becomes temporarily stunned and lowers its guard.

The primary weak point on the Mantis Shrimp is its eyes, which remain guarded during normal movement. Equipping a high-damage ranged weapon like the Red Sniper Rifle allows players to land precise shots while maintaining a safe distance. Once defeated, interact with the fallen creature to harvest its rare meat and claim your boss victory rewards.
